The FDNY Steuben Boat Ride was a great success. This year we were aboard the Art Cabana Yacht which sailed out of the East Side Marina known as the Skyport Marina, located at 2430 FDR Drive. Two parking garages were conveniently located adjacent to the boat. If you took the subway it stopped at 23rd Street and Park Ave which is about a 6 block walk to the marina. The check in process went well with Steuben Members, John Sarnes, John Louthan, and Joe Carpenter performing the remedial tasks. Helper, Ingrid Gartner also did some hand stamping as a way to keep track of our paid up cruisers. Most everyone got on board before the heavens opened up that saw a deluge of rain engulf this tiny marina. Scheduled to sail at 6pm Sharp, we waited for some late arrivals. We waited patiently and finally sailed at 6:25 amid the left over showers. Sailing down the East River we viewed the 3 bridges that connect Brooklyn with Manhattan. Once in the harbor our next destination was the Statue of Liberty where Marine 9 put on a splendid water display. The "FIREFIGHTER II" was on hand to pump the water into its many cannons. Commanded by Capt. Lou Guzzo, Marine 9 crew members did a great job! The backdrop of the Statue of Liberty provided for some great shots for the many photographers on board.
