"Hello, my name is Amanda Chojnacki and I would like to thank the FDNY Steuben Association for this generous scholarship grant. It is an honor to receive it. I am 14 years old and I am about to finish my 8th year at St. Raymond Elementary School. This fall I will be attending Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale, NY.
I have been very active this past school year. I was in my school's Math Olympiad and Jr. Sodality. I have also been on my school's basketball and softball teams since 7th grade. Outside of school, I am on teams for CYO Chess, CYO Volleyball, CYO Basketball and AAU Basketball. I have been playing the clarinet in my school band since 3rd grade. In 4th grade I was elected to play in the Long Island Jr. Honor Band. I then moved up to play in the Senior Honor Band in 6th grade and in the Wind Ensemble in 7th and 8th.
I also love to volunteer. This past year I volunteered in the Religious Education Program in my parish. I was also chosen for my school's Leader Corps Program, where I was able to help the teachers and younger students of my school. I am an altar server and sing in my church's Folk Group and I enjoy being part of my town's Junior Fire Department. I would once again like to Thank you for this award, it is very much appreciated!"
