FIRST THE TWO YOUNG LADIES WHO WON THE 8TH GRADE GRANT:

Our first winner is Piper Klammer, sponsored by her Father, Pete Klammer (L-47)

"Hi, my name is Piper Klammer and I am very grateful to win the Steuben Association scholarship. I have just recently finished 8th grade at Mahopac Middle School and I am moving on to the Mahopac High School. While I was in the Middle School I took German with Frau Bauerlein, played modified soccer, entered the STEAM fair, did Project Adventure as an elective, played CYO basketball for St.John’s the Evangelist, ran varsity track, and so much more. During my track season I broke three records and one of them was with my sister Mia, who also won the Steuben Association scholarship two years ago. Outside of school I play on a U-19 soccer team with my two sisters and one of my cousins, which a lot of people can’t say. I also love being with my family skiing and just being in the outdoors. I look forward to my High School career in sports and academics and I would just like to thank the Steuben Association again for this gracious grant."

Our 2nd winner of a $200.00 Educational Grant is Emily Lehr sponsored by her Dad, Greg Lehr (Battalion 27))

“Hi, my name is Emily Lehr and I will soon be finishing 8th Grade at North Salem Middle School, where I have maintained High Honor Roll grades throughout. Next year I will have the privilege of attending Kent School, a college prepatory school in Kent, Connecticut. I have been a member of a girl scout troop for 9 years which has afforded me the opportunity to work with some wonderful charities. I am also a member of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) at school.

I play clarinet in my school's orchestra and have been a violinist for 8 years and am currently the concert master of the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra's String Ensemble. I have played lacrosse for 8 years and now I play for a local travel team. I was fortunate to travel to Munich a couple of years ago and studied German prior to travel. I would like to thank the FDNY Steuben Association for this generous grant. The award is greatly appreciated and will be put to good use. Vielen Dank.

"Danke Schoen, Emily."

AND NOW HERE ARE THE TWO YOUNG MEN WHO ALSO WON:

Gerrin Hagen, sponsored by his Father, Chris Hagen (L-155)-pictured above/\

"Hello, my name is Gerrin Hagen. Thank you to the FDNY Steuben Association for selecting me as a recipient of the Steuben Association educational grant. I am 14 years old and will be finishing my final year at the Long Beach Middle School. In the fall I will be attending the 9th grade at Long Beach High School. I am a member of the National Junior Honor Society and have been on the high honor roll throughout middle school. I have been selected twice to the Nassau County, all-county band for the French horn.

I currently play both ice hockey and lacrosse for school and travel teams. I have been assistant captain for my hockey team for two years. In the summers, I serve as a Junior Lifeguard for the City of Long Beach. I try to be a leader in my community just like how my dad is as a Lieutenant in the FDNY.  One day, if I don't make it to the NHL, I want to be a firefighter too.

Again, I am very grateful to be selected as a scholarship recipient of the Steuben Association. Thank you."
